About Us
Crunchy Dog Ice Cream and Eats is owned by Tracey Davis, a proud local business owner who grew up surrounded by delicious home made food and the importance of community. Established in 2020, Crunchy Dog is a woman owned small business here in Saskatoon. Serving a wide variety of soft ice cream treats, hard ice cream, and tasty snack foods at the shop located in Saskatoon’s Westmount neighbourhood, it is a popular gathering place in the summer.
Raised on a dairy farm in rural Saskatchewan, Tracey was surrounded by great bakers. Her Grandma always had baked goods on hand and she was known to make a delicious flapper pie. Tracey’s Mom owned a bakery in small town Saskatchewan where Tracey had the opportunity to help out.
After a career in operations and management roles for many years, she felt it was time to do something that made people happy. What better way than to do it with ice cream!
In 2026 she is expanding her business to include catering to a variety of functions and adding an ice cream bike to bring delicious treats to your neighbourhood. Keep an eye out to learn more about those opportunities!
A story of love, loyalty,
treats, and ice cream
One of our earliest customers was Griz and his person, Jenny. Griz and Jenny were a regular fixture at the Crunchy Dog patio, even in the winter! Griz would insist on checking to see if we were open for business.
Griz found Jenny at the SPCA in December of 2016. Rescued from the side of the highway, Griz stole Jenny’s heart when on their first meeting, he hopped up on a table, put his front legs up around Jenny’s neck and gave her the biggest, cuddliest hug. Griz had found his person.
The start of the relationship was rocky! Griz wanted to keep up with his bachelor ways and it took a while for him to realize that being a good house mate was the better approach.
He loved to let everyone know when he was in the front yard. Barking and howling at the gate when anyone passed until Jenny came out with treats. We think we know who was in charge.
When Crunchy Dog opened in 2020, ice cream breaks became a frequent event on their walks, often bringing Griz’s buddy, Ollie, along for the visit.
Griz loved his treats and Jenny loved her scoop of salted caramel. Together they would enjoy the weather, the company, and the ice cream.
Unfortunately in July of 2025, Griz fell ill and passed away suddenly. Jenny was left without her walking partner and her ice cream mate. Griz and Jenny were one of our first, most frequent, and most recognizable customers. In Griz’s honour, we chose to name our logo after him.
